Sheila Bapat joined the California Bar Foundation as Program Director in December 2014. After working as a litigation associate, Sheila entered the nonprofit sector. She spent the past several years raising foundation support and building programs in the realms of gender diversity in politics, legal services, and poverty alleviation. She brings to CBF a deep commitment to supporting law students as well as legal services providers who aid California’s most underserved populations.
In addition, Sheila is an author and freelance writer focusing on social movements and economic justice. Her first book, Part of the Family: Nannies, Housekeepers, Caregivers, and the Battle for Domestic Workers’ Rights was published by Ig Publishing in June 2014. Part of the Family has been adopted by several university professors, and was featured in U.S. News and World Report and Ms. Magazine. Her 7-city book tour included collaborations with the National Domestic Workers’ Alliance, the Institute for Policy Studies, and the University of Illinois-Chicago.
Sheila received her J.D. from the University of Pennsylvania and her B.A. from the University of Arizona.
