Diversity Scholarship Fund
Understanding the critical need for increasing diversity in the legal profession, the Foundation is launching a new scholarship program in 2008 to bolster the pipeline of racial and ethnic minorities entering law school and, ultimately, becoming lawyers. Although California's overall population is more than 53% minority, only 17% of the State Bar membership and approximately 30% of California law students are minorities. The Diversity Scholarship Program will provide critical financial assistance and confidence-building recognition to law students from communities underrepresented in the legal profession during the challenging first year of law school. Incoming first-year students at California law schools who have financial need and a desire to make an impact in the community will be eligible to receive scholarships of up to $7,500.
Donors to the Diversity Scholarship Fund make three-year, $10,000 per year commitments. In recognition of its gift, each donor is able to "name" one of the Diversity Scholarships each year for the duration of the pledge commitment and present the awards at the Foundation's annual Scholarship Reception, held each fall in conjunction with the State Bar Annual Meeting. Donors also receive enhanced recognition as a member of the Foundation's Leadership Circle.

Public Interest Scholarship Fund
Since 1992, the Foundation has supported more than 550 outstanding law students headed for public interest law careers with more than $2.3 million in scholarship funds. With the cost of a legal education spiraling upward and many law school graduates facing more than $80,000 in debt, the Public Interest Scholarship Program provides crucial financial assistance to students with a demonstrated commitment to public service, academic excellence, financial need, and plans to pursue public interest law positions.
Donors to the Public Interest Scholarship Fund make three-year, $10,000 per year commitments. In recognition of its gift, each donor is able to "name" one of the Public Interest Scholarships each year for the duration of the pledge commitment and present the awards at the Foundation's annual Scholarship Reception, held each fall in conjunction with the State Bar Annual Meeting. Rosenthal Bar Exam Scholarship Fund
Since 1997, the Foundation has offered one of the few scholarship programs in the country specifically aimed at providing Bar exam-related support for law school graduates pursuing public interest careers. Without the support of a private law firm employer, the exam fee, the cost of a Bar review course, and living expenses while studying for the exam can add thousands of dollars to a recent law school graduate's debt burden. Through the Rosenthal Bar Exam Scholarship Program, each spring the Foundation awards free California BAR/BRI Bar exam review courses (valued at more than $3,000) and/or cash awards of up to $1,000 recent or soon-to-be graduates of California law schools.
Donors to the Rosenthal Bar Exam Scholarship Fund make three-year, $5,000 per year commitments. In recognition of its gift, each donor is able to "name" one of the Rosenthal Bar Exam Scholarships each year for the duration of the pledge commitment. Donors also receive enhanced recognition as a member of the Foundation's Leadership Circle.
We deeply thank the following donors who have made 2011 commitments to the Rosenthal Bar Exam Scholarship Fund:
Sheppard, Mullin, Richter & Hampton LLP
We also thank the Rosenthal Family for its long-standing support of the Rosenthal Bar Exam Scholarship Program and BAR/BRI of California for providing discounts on the bar review courses awarded to the top winners.
