Criteria, Instructions, and Conditions for the Rosenthal Bar Exam Scholarship
As one of the only scholarship programs in the country that helps public interest law students with bar exam expenses, the Rosenthal Bar Exam Scholarship supports the pipeline of young California lawyers entering the legal profession as public interest attorneys. The Scholarship recognizes outstanding graduating California law students with financial need who are embarking on careers in public service law by providing financial support for costs related to taking the California Bar Exam. All winners will receive California Bar/Bri Law Review Bar Exam review courses (valued at more than $3,500).
The Rosenthal Bar Exam Scholarship is awarded in the spring of 2013. The 2013 Application Deadline is 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, February 6, 2013.
Candidate must be: -Graduating or have graduated from a California law school in the 2012-2013 academic year; and -Taking the California Bar Exam in 2013 for the first time.
Candidate must demonstrate and document a strong commitment to public service, intent to pursue a public interest legal career after law school, and financial need, as shown by financial aid eligibility and outstanding educational loans.
Candidate must maintain at least a 2.5 GPA or equivalent on a 4.0 scale (or provide an explanation of extenuating circumstances if GPA is lower than 2.5) and provide the grading curve used at Candidate’s law school.
Candidate's law school must certify: -Candidate's actual or anticipated graduation date; -Good ethical standing of Candidate while attending law school; and -Candidate's financial need.
Candidate must have filed his/her application for Moral Character Determination with the State Bar of California by the Rosenthal Bar Exam Scholarship Application Deadline.
Candidate must be chosen as one of a maximum of four Candidates nominated by his/her law school.
Candidates from online law schools must be California residents.
Previous Foundation scholarship winners are eligible for the Rosenthal Bar Exam Scholarship; any prior awards received by Candidate may be taken into consideration in the selection process.
All portions of the Application must be received via email by the Foundation by 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, February 6, 2013 (the “Application Deadline”). Please note that in order to provide enough time to select its nominees, a law school typically requires Candidates to submit their Applications to the law school by a date earlier than the Foundation's Application Deadline.
Applications must be submitted by email as one (1) PDF to: Natalia Merluzzi firstname.lastname@example.org with the Subject Heading: Rosenthal Bar Exam Scholarship.
All documents submitted with Candidate’s Application for the Rosenthal Bar Exam Scholarship, including law school documents and letters of recommendation, should include the name of Candidate on each page.

Rosenthal Bar Exam Scholarship Recipients will be requested to provide a recent digital photograph of themselves upon receiving notification of their award. Please do not send photos with Application.
The Foundation requires Rosenthal Bar Exam Scholarship Recipients to report back to the Foundation on the progress of their public interest careers during the next year.
The Foundation reserves the right to use information from Applications and letters of recommendation as part of its publicity of Rosenthal Bar Exam Scholarship Recipients.
Rosenthal Bar Exam Scholarship Recipients are expected to pursue public interest legal careers after law school.
Rosenthal Bar Exam Scholarship Recipients receiving named scholarships may be asked to contact donors supporting their scholarships and invited to firm events.
