Jim Pfeiffer Legal Heritage Memorial Fund
The legal and nonprofit community honors a dear friend and great leader through the Jim Pfeiffer Legal Heritage Memorial Fund. As its founding executive director, Jim Pfeiffer ably led the Foundation in its effort to build a better justice system for all Californians. Pfeiffer was a man who chose to make a difference and whose vision, commitment, and service will continue to benefit so many for years to come. The 2006 Legal Heritage Institute is dedicated to Jim Pfeiffer's memory. Gifts to the Jim Pfeiffer Legal Heritage Memorial Fund are supporting this year's program. An avid hiker and outdoorsman, Pfeiffer died on January 14 in a hiking accident in the Marin Headlands. He was 60. Pfeiffer served as the Foundation's founding executive director for 13 years until his retirement in 2003, due to Parkinson's disease. In addition to the Legal Heritage Institute, which Pfeiffer established in 2001, among the programs he helped create were Peer Courts for first-time youthful offenders who commit a misdemeanor, the Kids in the Law and When You Become 18 publication series; and the Foundation's Law School Scholarship Program. Pfeiffer had a long and distinguished career in fundraising for other non-profit organizations including YMCAs throughout the country and the Diocese of San Jose. In addition, he was executive director of the California Supreme Court Historical Society from 1997 to 2000. The Foundation extends a sincere THANK YOU to the following individuals and organizations who generously contributed to the Jim Pfeiffer Legal Heritage Memorial Fund:
